Hey everyone! [14 Jun 2007|07:37am]
[ mood | contemplative ]

Hello Ysagers,

This is Amanda T., your new secretary for YSAG 07-08. This Tuesday the board had a meeting and we have planned out the scheduale for next year. There are a ton of activities for us to do including the ball and caberat. We also chose the theme for this year. This years theme is (drumroll please...)  "In the Spirit of Giving". We will  also be chosing the color for the t-shirts soon (probably something other than the dark green).

Another thing we talked about was elections. As a group we voted to change the style and next year it will be all new. The next elections will be a blank ballot allowing for the voter to write in any person for the position. This should stop the constant in and outs the happen every year that do waste time. The ballots will then be counted and the winners announced.

One major change to YSAG will be online. In the coming days I will be making a Facebook group devoted to YSAG. The board agreed to this seeing that there weren't many people looking at livejournal because it is sort of out of people's way. WIth Facebook, many people are already registered and will have more of a pechance to view it. So stay tuned on this page for the opening of YSAG on Facebook.

Well, that's it for now. I wish everybody good luck on their exams and a very relaxing summer.

                                                                                         - Amanda T.

Soo, Today we covered a lot of stuff.
To start off we talked about Charity Cabaret. Auditions are deff next week during Ysag for Ysag members, and then that Wednesday for non-ysagers. We will get tickets to sell next week and we need 60 of them in by April 10th for the show to go on!! The actual Cabaret is on April 28th. The only problem is that the High School talent show is the same week, so we might find ticket sales kind of hard.
The Cystic Fibrosis Walk is on May 5th, same day as ball for all those attending, the chair is Matt Clinton, and it is at Wickham Park. We are not sure of the time and details yet.
Relay For Life is on June 8th, the chair is Kaitlyn Gorman, and it is at the Community center. We will probably need people to walk and work at it.

We also need to start thinking about Senior Send Off! this will be on June 13th? or 12th, which is a tuesday, from 1-8pm at YSB.

Don't forget about our contest between the Freshman and the World! Bring in toiletries, eyeglasses and Mother and Father's day gifts.

We have also decided to move elections for next years officers up to May 1st, along with doing May baskets that day.

April 13th will be Spring Fling at Gilmore, so get to YSB right after school to head on over!

That pretty much sums it up! See everyone next week!

Attendance: Molly R, Arya J, Sarah S, Chris G, Meg F, Jessica R, Chris M, Katie G, Steph G, Eric P, Jess P, Colin S, Tomas M, Kaitlyn G, Liz W, Alexis S, Justine S, Jacelyn S, Bailey M, Caty R, Matt P, Sara R, Amanda T

Question: Whats your favorite part of spring?
Best answer: Amanda T- Sitting under a tree listening to birds sing!

..sorry Palazzo, lying nude in a field of daisies does not cut it.

[ mood | sad ]

Ysagers,

At todays meeting we had the sad realization that the Hollywood Ball must be canceled. Due to lack of tickets sold, the cut off was not met and we had no other choice : (     Hopefully no one shows up at the Community Center this Friday! We talked a lot about involvement in YSAG and how commitment is a big deal that  we need to address it, especially if it doesn't get better.  We also talked about having a bring a friend to YSAG day, but remember, every meeting should be bring a friend day!

The next thing on our list is Ct Opposes the War on March 17th, 3pm, @ the Old State House, 800 Main St. The Chair of this is Becca P. Only a couple people, like 5, signed up, so i encourage you all to bring your friends! It is really important that the world knows us kids care about the war as well! It will be a great experience! For this we would make banners and signs, because it is really important to be loud!
The last thing we talked about was the Cystic Fibrosis walkathon. We voted to participate in this event and become a part of Cassie's team. The only thing is we thought it was on April 22nd, but we are not quite positive, so next meeting we will hopefully have a secure date.

Attendance: Becca P, Megan F, Jessica R, Chris M, Sarah M, Kristin M, Rachel M, Matt C, Michael R, Carolyn J, Eric P, Jess P, Caty R, Tyler B, Sara R, Natasha L, Amanda T, Crystal M, Arya J, Matt P, Mariel P, Ryan K, Alexis S, Liz W, Kaitlyn G, Colin S

Jan 2nd Minutes [05 Jan 2007|06:35pm]
[ mood | optimistic ]

Hey YSAG!

This meeting started off by discussing our ideas about why we celebrate Martin Luther King day! We realized that this holiday is more than just a day off from school.
That is why the Martin Luther king Day event is perfect for YSAG to get involved in! So at the meeting we sighned up for shifts for that Monday June 15th. The times are 10-12 and 2:15-4:45. You can come for one or even both would be awesome! The actual program starts at 1:30 and if you saty for both we might try to provide lunch for YSAGers. The list of those who sighned up will be at next meeting so double check at home to make sure you can come. The chair is Becca P. Sarah was also going to look at kingscenter.com to find any other events locally throughout the year we could help out in. Everyone else is welcome to check that websute too.

The next thing we discussed was having a fun day on Jan 19th after the second day of midterms. Come over to YSb if you are in high school and enjoy yourself while we wait for the smithies to get there. Then we can sit and relax and watch Ferris Bueler's Day Off! It's going to be a good time, I can tell.

In attendance: Becca P, Colin S, Eric P, Lindsey W, Angie P, Natata L, Jess P, Amanda T, Rachel M, Justine S, Jacelyn S, Liz W, Sarah M, Sarah S, Dani R, Arya J, Matt P, Mariel P, Ryan K, jessica R, Megan F

Question: Why is Ryan Kelley kind of like Martin Luther King Jr?
Best answer ( and most PC..b/c we know what most of you wrote down): Sarah Schaffer- They are FANTASTIC..so there should be Ryan kelley day
or Rachel Marks: He's not

  • The second event we voted on was VFW Ton of Cheer. This is this Sunday the 17th from 1-3 at the Chamber of Commerce on 2341 Main St. For this event we need to bake (or buy) treats to drop off so they can be sent to troops durring the holidays. Cards, cookies and other assorted gifts to cheer someone up are all apprpriate! The chair is Sarah Schaffer.

Hellooo YSAG!
This past meeting most people in the Haunting were able to get costumes (except any female roles, those will be given out next meeting). Besides that we discussed:
  • The Apple Fest Parade: We NEED at least 15 people to sign up in order to use this to promote The Haunting. By the end of last meeting I belive we had enough people, but if you signed up you must show up. Meet at 11:30 at GHS and you will be shuttled over to the Academy to begin. The parade ends at the Community Center. Please wear kid-friendly costumes.
  • The Haunting! : Next week (16th-19th) after school or durring you frees if you are ever available please go over to YSB and help Chris bring out all materilas to the big room. There is a lot of stuff and it will take a lot of people to get done, please try and help. The most important one of these is Thursday after school because it is the day before we set up. If you bring money Chris might be able to get some food! The set up in the Community Center is on Friday the 20th, got to YSB after schoola nd the Van will take you over to the Center and that goes untill 9:30-10pm, or however long it takes to be set up! All performers come with your lines memorized and everyone don't forget your costumes!
  • Twinkling Pumpkins: Chair- Ross Yoder: This event is on Fri Oct 27th from 6-8pm on the Fountain green. Please come over to YSB after school to go there a bit early becasue people are needed to help carve the pumpkins for little kids. If you can only go at ngiht please wear a costume, and dress warm underneath! This event is really fun!

Now on to The Haunting discussion, key points:
  • Chairs: Tyler, Matt and Beka G
  • Next week will be auditions for YSAG people to be in the Haunted House, so be there! Also at that meeting you may sing up for the craft table and to bring in food for the bake sale.
  • People are also encouraged to start making any sort of craft they are good at, to sell to raise some $ for YSAG. for example: bracelets, scarfs, cards, etc.
  • It would also be nice if anyone in other clubs could get those people to help participate because as of now there are not enough people in YSAG to pull the whole thing off.
Details of the Haunting:
  • Parts of this Event: The Haunted House, the bake sale/craft sale, craft tables for kids, game booths, and hopefully something going on outside, if the weather permits.

BOWLING!! [24 Sep 2006|11:23am]
[ mood | happy ]

This past meeting we had a YSAG field trip to the bowling alley! I think we all had a lot of fun, and we hope to do it again sometime. It would be incredibly helpful if all those that went could remember to bring $5 to the next meeting to pay for the trip.

Also REMINDER: Please bring your $5 dues!!!!!! It helps pay for fun things like bowling!!

Next meeting we will be discussing the Haunting and this meeting will most likley go untill 4, because we have a lot to discuss.
We will also be signing up for the Canoe Race which is on Sun. Oct 1st starting at 7:30 am. at the marina. It is really fun and there is a lot to do there, so I encourage all to sign up!
Next Saturday is the Storm drain clean up, meeting at the town hall from 8:30-1pm to put stickers on town drains to let people be aware of littering and dunping in the drains. I'm not quite sure when sign up is for that, it might have already happened this past meeting.
Another thing we need to think about is the Festival of Trees at the end of November. For this event YSAG decorates a tree and donates it to the Wadsworth, then people buy those trees at an auction and that money goes to something..either charity or the Wadsworth, so it's a good cause. We need a chair for this and a theme for the tree.
The last thing in December is the Santa's Run In the GHS gym from 11-1:30. At this event you get people organized and sing them in, and as a bonus you get a free t-shirt! This event is a little ways off though.
See everyone this Tuesday at the Haunting Meeting!

September 12th Meeting! [12 Sep 2006|05:09pm]
[ mood | happy ]

    Hey YSAG!!
This past meeting was our Fun Day! It was very successful and we had loads of fun playing with hula hoops, doing the egg spoon thing and passing assorted wax fruits around in a circle. Thats some intense YSAG sprit right there.
Durring the meeting we talked about the past weekend's events and how they went. The Tag sale raised over $200 for YSAG!!!! Thats some good news! The bad news is that not everyone that signed up for the events showed up. We had two people that showed up for the Book Sale...thats not good because that mgiht give us a bad rep and thats not the type of group we want to be. We understand if you need to cancel b/c something came up so just call in to YSB, but if u sign up please show!
Other than that thank you so much to everyone that came and donated their gifts to the sale!
Next meeting will be our field trip to the bowling alley! We will have a brief meeting after we get back. For high schoolers we will be leaving right after school and getting back around 4. For the smithies they will be picked up after their school and I believe also get back around 4. In order to attend this awesome trip you must, by law, have your permission slip signed by your parents or else you may not attend! YSAG will be taking out of their funds to pay for this, it is $10 a person. Please bring your own money if you would like a snack, and if you are feeling generous it would be very helpful to bring $10 to pay for yourself and save YSAG some money : )
The meeting after out trip will be on the 26th and we will be planning for the Haunting. Matt and Beka are our chairs and the theme is the Monster House.
Another event we will be participating in is the Cane Race on October 1st. The chairs are Rebecca D, Angie P and Colin S. It starst early in the moring, around 7:30, to help with parking, sighning people in, and then we will be face painting. The money from the race goes to Glastonbury Land Heritage Coordination to save land in Gbury so it doesnt get turned into housing.
    In Attendance: Rebecca P, Anthony B, Caty R, Ryan K, Tyler B, Jess P, Micheal R, Jacelyn S, Alexis S, Emily B, Kaitlyn G, Liz  W, Carolyn J, Matt R, Ross Y, Kacie U, Megan F, Ryan O, Rick R, Jess O, Rachel M, Steph G, Kristy B, Chris M, Arya J, Mariel P, Amanda T, Colin S, Roxy R, Matt P, Bailey M, Eric P

Best Answer: Tyler : Mashed potatoes with cheese, bacon, sour cream, bacon and scallions
ps. RK you lose for saying something that gives you heartburn : P

Minutes from the officer meeting on the 29th [30 Aug 2006|08:19pm]
[ mood | busy ]

An officer meeting was held this past Tuesday and we discussed upcoming events for this year and how to make it as FUN (our theme!) as possible!
We went over the treasurer's report and found out some very good news! $300 from the candy sales were not added in to our last report so we are not as broke as we thought!! We have about $450-$500 !!So thats exciting and VERY good news!
Then we discussed what the officers want to accomplish this year. Our main goal is to feel united in YSAG and not have different groups at meetings and events but to be friends with Everyone! Its all about the GROUP! not groups!
We aslo thoguht it might be good, once a month or less, that we learn something new that many kids in Gbury don't know how to do. Chris and Amanda would help u with this, and examples are depositing slips at the bank, and riding the bus to Hartford, or any other random things we don't know how to do properly!
We moved on to our closest events and meetings. THE FIRST YSAG IS TUESDAY SEPT. 5TH!! Be there people! We are having a Homecoming BBQ and Remembering September 11th so our theme will be patriotic. Any food/drink donations would be much appretiated! We will discuss the book sale and Tag sale. They are both happening on the same day!! WE will also try to make YSAG buttons with your name on them so you may wear them to events adn people will know where you are from.
Book Sale - Sat 9th - They need volenteers at the library from 7:30-9am to help set up the books. Then again from 4:30-6pm (it ususally takes less time) to help put everything away. Don't forget that at 4:30 you may take any books/videos/music etc. that is left over! YAY!
Tag Sale - Sat 9th- This  tag sale is to help YSAG raise money for the upcoming year and will be held on the fouintain green (right across from the book sale!). We NEED donations from all of you and anyone else that is willing! Please tag items before brigning them down it would be verrrryyyyy helpful! Bring your items to the fountain from 8-9am, so we can set them up. The tag sale is from 9-12, and cleaning up is from 12-1pm. Yes, we need donations from all of you, but we also need people to be there setting up, working the sale, and helping take down. Dont forget we have the Book sale the same day so please make an extra effort to come and help that day because we will be split into 2 groups. Any parent volenteers are also very appretiated!
To make YSAG more fun and united we decided that on our meeting on the 12th we would have a fun day!! WOOO!! We would be doing such events as an egg race, hola-hoop games, and other such games. We would then go in and have a meeeting! YAY FOR FUN!!
The next meeting on the 19th we are going to have a field trip of some sort! We are not quite sure what yet but we are looking into bowling or mini golfing or something like that! Once we know what we want to do we will tell the members exactly how much it is and permission slips are needed.
The next meeting on the 26th is when we start brainstorming for the Haunting!! So we have a very busy month and I hope you all can make the first meeting. I encourage you all to bring your friends and all new members are welocme! See you then!

Upcoming YSAG year! [04 Aug 2006|12:57pm]
[ mood | busy ]

Hello fellow YSAGers!!

At the begging of the summer the first officer meeting was held to discuss the upcoming year. It is going to be busy and exciting...and a little broke..but we are going to have lots of fun no matter what! And that is our theme this year : Fun Working Together. We decided that we shouldn't feel obligated to do community service, we should want to do it because we like it!

Upcoming Events:

  • The first officer meeting is Aug. 29th (fist day of school!) and the first YSAG meeting is Sept.5th.

  • Since YSAG is a little broke..ok more than a little..we need a way to raise money. On Sat. Aug. 26th ( i have to double check with Chris if its still going on! but still plan for it!) a tag sale will be held on YSB's front lawn. We NEED donations from all of you! The tag sale will be from 9-12 am, BUT all donations must be already tagged with the price!! The donation must be brought on Friday the 26th to YSB from 3-5 or that saturday morning from 7-8. This is a great way to get rid of all your junk and help us raise money! You can also tell people that it is going to charity..because in time it will! We will need people to help work at the event and possibly some baked goods to sell would be awesome! But to make this event possible we will need donations! Tell your friends and family! This has potential to be great!

  • Library book sale - Sat. september 9th. The same day as the yankee peddler sale! This is nice becasue the peddler sale is at the fountain right across the street from the library and will draw the crowd from the book sale! So this day will be especially busy!

  • Sunday Oct 15th - Apple fest to advertise for the Haunted House. The parade starts at 1pm, get there at 12 in costume ready to march!

  • Sunday Oct 8th - Canoe race

  • The Haunted House! - 21st and 22nd of October at the Communtity Center! Set up is the week before.

  • Nov 16th- Great American Smokeout day - a fight against smoking..this will be explained later.

  • Dec 3rd - Santa's Run.

    • Thursday Dec. 14th - Caroling.

Well guys look like this is going to be a busy year! Email me/post a comment if u can help out with the tag sale.
I hope everyone is having an awsome summer!

    Becca
